My Steps to Creating a Basic Budget.

As the the Coronavirus pandemic continues, more and more people are struggling financially; with more people claiming benefits, the pressures of managing money has become even more important.

Setting a budget is vital in helping get through tough times; it won’t give you any more money, but it will give you clarity, even if the picture is bleak.  From clarity you can start to take action.

Budgeting can also give you a level of control, rather than the chaos of the snowball effect of closing your eyes and hoping for the best.

Taking responsibility for your finances can be quite empowering; you may still be struggling financially, but having a plan that you have created (even with help) will build your confidence and increase positivity. Read more

Business Finance; How Confident Are You That Your Accounts Are Accurate?

I found this blog in my drafts section, and wish that I had published it sooner, especially when I read the following sentence…..

“It is said that a crisis is the best way to change habits, but why wait? What happens if it is too late?”

The sad truth is that for some businesses it may already be too late, and they won’t survive the current crisis, especially those in the hospitality industry.  Many businesses have been forced to close, and the opportunity to re-open seems a long way off.

Finance Gym – Feeling Good About Your Finances

A while ago, I was chatting on-line to a friend about their finances, and the conversation we had reaffirmed to me why I created my ‘Finance Road Map’.

The edited conversation went like this:

Friend (morning):  “Urgh!  Finally catching up on my accounts, which I have neglected appallingly for months.  Funny how just checking the running total in the bank gives you a sense that you are doing ok, and don’t need to bother.”

Friend (evening):  “I got my accounts pretty much done! My goody two shoes goblin in my head wanted me to check through all of 2015 an 2016 as well! Thankfully there were no nasty surprises, and it’s engendered a new found determination to do them regularly; after all, one month only takes about 20 minutes if I just blooming well do them!” Read more

Warning! Protect Your Business From Fraud.

The threat of fraud and cyber-crime is not new, however so much happened over the last few weeks that brought it to the forefront of my attention, and made me realise how vulnerable a company can be to such attacks.

A client was defrauded of a substantial amount of money; the way in which the fraudsters worked was incredible.  It appears as though they got access to the companies e-mail system and sent e-mails from the directors to payroll.  The e-mails contained new bank details for an employee, for their salary to be paid to.

Payroll actioned the request. Read more
