A while ago we had the pleasure to see a young band perform at a charity gig in North London; we loved their style, and the different approach they take to music. The band we saw was Passport to Stockholm.
Passport To Stockholm are a four piece band, based in London; they formed in 2012 and have already pumped fresh air and energy into the acoustic genre, the mix of instruments they use are that which you may not always think would work together, but hey, these guys make it work. When we saw them setting up we did not know what to expect; a guitar, cello, loop pedals, and that was just the start, as they performed they came out with an assortment of instruments from harmonicas to what we think was a Xylophone.
So who are the four talented musicians that make up Passport To Stockholm? Let me introduce you to Barny (vocals), Tom (guitar), Sophie (cello) and Henri (percussion)
Recently the band entered into a competition to try and win a place on the Surrey Sessions Stage at this years Magic Summer Live, at Stoke Park in Guildford. The competition was a collaboration between The Boileroom, Andertons Music and ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music) who wanted to give opportunities to a few local bands in the Guildford area, to get the opportunity to play at the festival alongside the likes of Jamiroquai and the legendary Bryan Adams.
The competition was split into three heats, which were held at The Boileroom, the winner of each heat would get to perform, live on the Surrey Sessions Stage.
Passport To Stockholm were one of hundreds of bands that applied to be part of the competition, each band had to fill in an application form and send a video of their best track, it was then down to who was going to be shortlisted for the three finals.
The band made it to the finals, and performed at The Boileroom on 14th June. We were delighted to hear on Monday, this week that Passport To Stockholm are one of the overall winners, which is so exciting. The band are constantly writing new material and gigging, so it is great to see their hard work paying off. We have a feeling this is just the start for them.
If you are going to Magic Summer Live this weekend, do go and support them, and the other young talent on show.
