How many times have you said that to someone?
Or has someone said that to you?
We watched Bridget Jones over the weekend and when Mr Darcy tells Bridget, “I like you very much. Just the way you are.” there’s a gasp from me. No! He likes her just the way she is!
Imagine that… Being yourself, your easy self, doing and saying what’s true for you, and then being FULLY accepted for you. Wow!
I really believe that the best thing you can do for yourself right now, is to be you and to trust yourself.
I have to admit at this point, that when I hear someone saying, “Be yourself. Trust yourself.” I’m a bit flummoxed. What the heck does that mean?
Well, I think you are made up of core characteristics, which mean that you like certain things and don’t like others, that you think in a certain way.
You have core impulses which (if you trust them and follow them) attract you towards people and situations that fulfill you. There are things which you love doing and which you find easy to do.
This is the core of who you are.
Then…around that core is everything you’ve learned or been taught about who you ‘should’ be. Sometimes this outer core can be quite strong because lots of us spend many years learning how others think we should be.If you are being you, it is effortless. If you are being who you think you should be, you feel like you are trying all the time. It takes a lot of effort to be something you are not.
I really think that when you listen and allow yourself to be true then your life leads you on a path to fulfilment and health. That is why I say that if you do nothing else for yourself, let go of everything you aren’t and embrace everything you are!I have really learned this from writing the Dream On blog every week.
Those of you who know me will know that I have a tendency to think deeply about everything. This deep thinking is not always a good thing, but it is a fundamental part of me and part of what I bring to the blog. I am learning to trust that part of me.
I am also learning to embrace the small under developed parts of me that want to come to light. I love adventure novels and movies. I want adventure in my life. As some of you will know I wrote my first mini-adventure blog last week. I loved writing it and I am going to make it a monthly thing. This will make me go out and find the adventure I crave.
The blog is me on a page, all good, all imperfect. And hopefully making a difference. That’s what floats my boat. My promise to you that I will bring all of myself to this blog to make it deep, exciting, inspirational and supportive. I may even discover a few more things along the way that I can bring to the table.
I want to invite you to write down everything that makes you tick.
Do me a favour – bring more of yourself into your life. You’ll see the difference.
Here’s to you!
